Steve Greenblatt, President of Control Concepts, has published the article Designing Your Control System — Start with the User Experience in Corporate TechDecisions, an AV industry publication published by EH Publishing. According to its website, Corporate TechDecisions, part of TechDecisions, is “the first set of websites dedicated to address the business needs of markets.”
The article, written by Steve Greenblatt for publication on August 16, looks at the value of considering user experience in the initial design phase of projects to enable programmers to better meet client needs upfront, saving time and money, and improving overall experience.
The article defines control programming as the biggest variable, one that needs attention from the start. As Steve writes in this excerpt, “Control programming is the biggest variable in a system though it typically gets the least amount of attention upfront. For example, understanding who is going to use the system will help shape the programming. The ability to identify users and the fundamental difficulty of defining such intangible elements of a project add to these constraints.
All of this amounts to unpredictable results after installation, and a lack of planning and definition of the user experience can derail a project.”
With this in mind, Steve poses- and addresses- the question, “this a case of the tail wagging the dog so why don’t we look at projects differently?”
